Work Stress

Stress is a natural response to any kind of demand or threat - when a person feels threatened, their nervous system typically responds by releasing lots of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones prepare the body for emergency action.

Some workplace stress is normal, however, excessive stress can interfere with not just your productivity but impact on your physical and emotional health. Prolonged stress can lead to intense episodes of anxiety and also depression.

Sometimes it may be your colleagues that notice changes in your personality or mood before you do so take on board the comments of others. If you believe that your stress levels are beyond the norm or what you can cope with - take positive action to address them as soon as possible. This may include raising the issue with a manager or colleague, seeking the advice of an occupational health professional or visiting your own GP.
